The Unit: Old Home Week

I can't understand why more people aren't talking about The Unit. This military, Special Ops show, starring the ex-President from 24, Dennis Haysbert, is well written, well acted and generally smart.

While the meat of the show is the military ops, the writers seem to be getting better at balancing the home life of the wives with the missions of the men.

What makes the show special, is that like the show "Rescue Me", it paints the men it protrays as smart, skilled, and doing what they believe is right. At the same time, it makes them human, with the same problems that most of us have.

While the situations that they get in and out of, are a little hard to believe week after week, the plans are laid out so that you could at least feel like it "could" happen that way.

The lack of buzz behind the show tells me that I may not have it to watch for much longer, but that's just a pity considering the stuff that stays on the air.

As an aside, the Brokeback Mountain element at the end of this episode was just weird. I'm not sure it they were making a statement, trying to create a moment or what. I guess that they are just trying to reinforce the notion that the military guys are still just people...

I agree with you Big T. This has to be one of my favorite shows, I do try to make time and stay caught up.

There are parallel story lines - the macho dudes, and the really smart moms/wives.

It's too bad their isn't buzz around this show - but historically speaking, most military shows that try to maintain a sense of realism seem to fail. Over There was a very realistic show about our troops in Iraq and it hasn't come back.
