Desperate Housewives: Bang

You've gotta love sweeps. DH was very well titled this week. The "bang" in question came suddenly and with great emotional impact. I would have to say that this was one of my favorite DH episodes in a long time. Sure, the set up felt a bit forced, but like dominoes, once the set up was complete and the events were put in motion, it was a thing of beauty.

I'm probably not alone when I say that Nora was just plain wacky, and a royal pain in the ass. Her latest move to take her daughter to Mexico with her just made me hate her. Did she really think that a job in a Tiajuana night club was a step up from anywhere else she could have taken her daughter? She was just lashing out. Good for Lynette in stepping up to offer to fight for custody. The priceless moment came when Tom asked if she really wanted a fifth child, and she replied "I didn't want the first four, but they are starting to grow on me."

Now back to the setup... Bree has some real soul searching to do. If she hadn't felt compelled to tell Caroline Bigsby about the affair that her husband had with Monique, none of this would have happened. And if you look at the odds of getting Edie, her nephew, Susan's daughter, the new neighbor, Nora and Lynette all in the back of the grocery store at exactly that moment, then the whole show looks a little orchestrated. But if you cast aside your doubts, and say "that could happen", then it all makes for a great moment in TV.

With Caroline on the rampage and apparently feeling like killing isn't the worst crime a person can commit, we end up with a hostage situation that looks harmless on the surface, except potentially for Caroline's husband. When Caroline finds out that Lynette and Nora are fighting because Nora tried to steal her man, shoots Nora without hesitation, I was was shocked! A single and instantatneous shot to the chest, "bang". If you blinked, you missed the transition from harmless situation into potential bloodbath.

And with Nora dying, Lynette deciding to get all up in Caroline's face certainly didn't seem like the best idea she ever had. I guess we're lucky that new neighbor guy can throw with accuracy.

This whole event will provide fuel for a lot of what might be coming down the pike, including personal epiphanies and new relationships. The thing is, with Caroline gone, who is going to chase down the truth about Orson. His explanations seem good, and flow easily, but he did still run down Mike and he did try to misdirect the cops to Mr. Bigsby, and he did know Monique. I wonder what the truth will end up being....
